User / Strong Authentication 2012 January 17 0 comments

SAFENET ETOKEN 3500 NOW AVAILABLE

SafeNet is pleased to announce the general availability of SafeNet eToken 3500. SafeNet eToken 3500 is an innovative transaction signing and strong authentication device. It combines secure transaction signing and one-time password (OTP) strong authentication, enabling financial services organizations to significantly reduce the risk of online financial fraud.

Fighting the Increased Fraud Landscape

Over the last 3 years the info-security industry has encountered a new security threat with Man-in-the-Browser (MitB) attacks. The basis of these attacks is similar to the Man-in-the-Middle (MitM) security threat, but instead of intercepting and changing communications between the customer and the bank server, the MitB sits on the browser and uses the same security and authentication that the customer is using to authenticate to the server. This type of attacks is resistant to standard MitM preventative measures that usually include user / client authentication and a secure channel between the client and the server. As a result, a token that offers both transaction verification and strong user authentication is needed.

Mitigating Fraud Risk using SafeNet eToken 3500 optical token

SafeNet eToken 3500 is an optical token, that solves the MitB threat. The optical sensor on the token ensures transaction security by reading transaction data from the Web browser and preventing “blind signatures” for transactions. After the user confirms that the transaction details read by the token are correct, the token generates a unique electronic signature. The user keys the signature into the bank portal to validate the transaction. SafeNet eToken 3500 is available with the SafeCORE API, a SDK that enables integration to bank system back ends.

SafeNet eToken 3500 offers the following benefits:

•  Sign what you see: An optical scanning mechanism on the token reduces input errors and is easy for customers to use

•  More than just authentication: The SafeNet eToken 3500 delivers transaction signing for transaction validation and strong authentication for secure access

•  Allows banks to take a layered approach to security: A bank can issue the SafeNet eToken 3500 to all customers and require transaction signing in addition to OTP identity validation for high risk transactions or specific groups of customers

•  SAM and SDK Enables Management and Integration: Complemented by SafeNet Authentication Manager for full life cycle capabilities or an SDK for banks that want to plug it into their own authentication backend.
